Smt.Latha Hamsalekha is an Indian Theatre and Feature Film Playback Singer. She has worked for more than 4 decades in the field of Music. She has, to her credit hundreds of successful cinema songs and also kannada light music songs. Latha Hamsalekha is married to Dr. Hamsalekha a well known Music Director of the Indian Film Industry.
In 1974 the two couples started a theatre group named “Viveka Ranga” where they performed many musical plays nearly for 20 years. Latha Hamsalekha started her career as an actor from the play ‘Raithajevi’ and also acted in many other plays like ‘Jokumara Swamy’, ‘Rahuchandra’, ‘Rangapurada Ramanaya’ and many more, but her main passion was for only Singing. Later, she started her journey in Kannada Film Industry has a Playback Singer from the film ‘Premaloka’ a duet with S.P.Balasubramanyam, and in the year 1988 her one of the most popular song even today “Hasiru Gajina Balegale” from the film ‘Avane Nanna Ganda’ was a big hit.
Her interest towards Hindhustani music made her purse from the Guru Shri Shesshadri Gavai and Carnatic music from the Guru Shankar Murthy. She is a Recipient of one Sate Award in 1999 for the Film ‘Arunodaya’ and ‘Aryabhatta’ Award in the year 2013 for an immense service towards playback singing and she has also received many other awards too. Latha Hamsalekha has recorded her duets with many leading singers including SPB, Dr.Rajkumar, Jesudas, Rajesh Krishnan, Mano, Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Adnan Swamy, Hemanth and many others.
